Yes, yes, yes. I had never seen the original Lion King. I found the CGI remake entertaining but rather hollow. I could not understand why, because it was so marvellously done. But then I realised, 'uncanny valley’: the visuals were too realistic for the sweet, pedagogical story. My eyes saw National Geographic, my ears heard Storytime.

I think there is a place for detailed, authentic CGI animated films about animals, but this was the wrong story for it.
